Explanatory Notes on Main Statistical Indicators
Gross National Income is gross domestic product (GDP) minus net taxes on production and imports, minus remuneration and property income for employees abroad, plus the corresponding items from employees abroad (in other words, GDP minus primary incomes payable to non-resident units plus primary incomes receivable from non-resident units). An alternative approach to measuring GNI at market prices is the sum of gross primary incomes from all sectors. Gross national income is identical to gross national product (GNP), as previously used in national accounts.
Per Capita GNI in PPP is per capita GNI based on purchasing power parity (PPP). PPP GNI is gross national income (GNI) converted to international dollars using purchasing power parity rates. An international dollar has the same purchasing power over GNI as a U.S. dollar has in the United States of America.
Consumer Price Index by Residents in Hong Kong refers to a series of consumer price indices reflected in Hong Kong Annual Digest of Statistics. The series of consumer price indices (CPIs) are compiled by the Census and Statistics Department of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to reflect the impact of consumer price changes on households in different expenditure ranges. The CPI(A), CPI(B) and CPI(C) are compiled based on the expenditure patterns of households in the relatively low, medium and relatively high expenditure ranges. By aggregating the expenditure patterns of all households covered by the above three indices, a composite CPI is also compiled to reflect the impact of consumer price changes on the household sector as a whole.
